Recall your favorite piece of clothing, when you wore it and what you did. Then you have a memory tied to a perfect season.
When I was a child I had this pair of blood red Mary Janes; round toed, perforated flat leather tassels, skinny ankle straps and small gold buckles, one barely hanging on by a thread. I loved running throught the summer grass in those shoes.
To this day I search for red shoes that make me feel as good as those did.
In my late 20’s I found a vintage rayon shirt waist dress. It had the perfect fit and, after hemming, the perfect length. Small patterns of white triangles against a navy background and buttons down the front, I cinched it tight with a bright red leather belt I had made. I wore that dress until I couldn’t mend it anymore. Then I carefully placed it in the bottom of a trunk to remain and remind me of all the fun we had together.
Any season can be host to an event never to be forgotten. Summer is a fine one for weddings.
My friend and I went to a wedding last week In Portland, Or. She was so excited zo her new dress; she worn only once before to a wedding in NYC. I could see why she loved it; black silk with small, varied sizes of white polka dots, nipped waist with deep pleats in the skirt and hidden pockets, hem length gracing her kneees, burnished gold exposed zipper down the back, neatly tied with a
small belt. She looked stunning.
I was wearing the replacement of my beloved navy dress mentioned above, that had seen many a party over the years, but still made me feel like a million bucks! If your garment is old ( now fashionably referred to as vintage), simply choose new ACCESSORIES; we both topped our dress off with a new Fascinators. What a time we had in our party finery.
Clothing can conjur up a multitude of memories and though we really care most about who we were with and what we did, its with fondness that I find myself musing about what I wore in a season to remember.
